Copilot Studio MCP Server OAuth with Salesforce Hosted MCP Server

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by
Product: Microsoft Copilot Studio (Web)

Scenario:
Connecting Copilot Studio Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool to Salesforce Hosted MCP Server.

Salesforce Hosted MCP Endpoint:
https://api.salesforce.com/platform/mcp/v1/sandbox/platform/sobject-reads

Authentication:
OAuth 2.0

Observed Error:
error=invalid_request
error_description=missing required code challenge

Configuration:
- Salesforce External Client App created
- Access Salesforce hosted MCP servers (mcp_api) scope enabled
- Authorization Code Flow enabled
- Callback URL configured to Copilot-generated redirect URL
- Consumer Key and Secret generated and configured
- OAuth redirect URL matches exactly

Observation:
Salesforce External Client App requires PKCE.
Copilot Studio MCP authentication appears not to provide the required PKCE code_challenge during authorization.

Question:
Does Copilot Studio MCP OAuth currently support Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers requiring PKCE, and if so, what is the correct OAuth configuration?

    Hello @GS-05081914-0 - With the same configuration details, are you able to connect to Salesforce through Postman?

    I just want to narrow down where exactly the connection is breaking. If you're able to connect successfully through Postman but are still unable to connect through Copilot Studio, then the next step would be to investigate the authentication request being sent from Copilot Studio to Salesforce.

    This should help us determine whether something is missing or being passed incorrectly in the request, particularly around the OAuth/PKCE configuration.

    If my suggestions helped you to sort out the issue, please do me a favor and mark my suggestions as verified. This way you're actually helping the community members to quickly navigate the resolution.
