Variables Disappear When Saving a Power Automate Flow

Hello,

I am a corporate account user in South Korea, currently using Power Automate (PA).

Yesterday, I modified a flow by changing only the recipient in a “Send an email” action. I did not modify any variables. After clicking Save, the flow executed with the variables missing.

As a result, the flow ran successfully but produced outputs with empty or missing data, because the variables were no longer present at runtime.

I would like to understand why this behavior occurred.

For your reference, I am using the new Power Automate designer.

Please explain the root cause of this issue and provide fundamental, preventative solutions to ensure this does not happen again.

I have attached the link below, as it appears that other users are experiencing the same issue as I am.

    Hi

This is a bug in the new Power Automate designer.

When you save the flow, the designer can accidentally remove or clear variable values, even if you only changed something small (like the email recipient).

Because of this the flow still shows “Succeeded” but the variables are empty → so the output is wrong.

    Fix / workaround:

Switch to the classic designer (top right), then:

    • open the flow again

    • check your variables

    • save and test

The classic designer is more stable and does not have this issue.

The variables are not lost during the run, they are removed when saving in the new designer.

    Hope it helps!

I am devastated, I lost an entire day of work to this issue. I was using the New designer today (July 2, 2026) and half of my variables got randomly completely cleared out. There was some pretty complex HTML that I've worked the entire day to develop. I'm going to cry :(

This is seriously dramatic. I've experienced this with a flow, too. It takes a lot of time to fix it. I hope a solution is found soon.

I purposefully stepped away from Power Automate development years ago because of how terribly slow and buggy the designer was. But I occasionally still have to help out with it in my organization. Of course, I encounter this bug the first time I've edited a flow in a few months.

This is absolutely horrible. Power Automate is a terrible product and it's insane that this hasn't been fixed over four months after being reported on a first-party forum.

Is there a timeframe for when this will be rectified by Microsoft?
