"Something went wrong"

Hi,

I’m experiencing issues with the AI Builder. I’ve created a prompt to extract text from PDF files, which may contain standard text, scanned text (images), or a combination of both. However, some PDFs fail to process, and when I upload them, I receive the error message: "Something went wrong."

Could you help me understand what might be causing this issue?

Thanks!

I'm running into the same issue, rather frustrating.  What's odd is that if I just go to standard copilot chat, give it the same exact document, and use the exact same prompt.... it works just fine.  Nothing advanced either, just testing with "summarize this document'.   Now, if I take that PDF and cut it to 9 pages, it works in Copilot Studio.  But 10 pages.... fails.  And there is no difference in content from pages 6-20 (giant list of contract terms).

Try it with a different 20+ page PDF that is nothing but terms and conditions.... works fine.

With no usable error messages to see where it's getting hung up, this is very unreliable.

Can't attach the PDF as an example, 5MB upload limit here should be increased.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my post!

Yes, the same files consistently fail, even when I retry. Here’s the prompt I’m using:

Extract the exact phrase "private limited banking" from the scanned PDF document file. The match must be case-insensitive but must be character-perfect. Do not allow any misspellings, extra letters, missing letters, or other variations. If there is any deviation from the exact phrase, do not return a match.

Unfortunately, I can't share the documents due to sensitive data. However, after some error handling on my end, here are my key findings:

    • File size isn’t the issue – I’ve successfully tested much larger files.

    • Low-quality scans still work – The prompt functions correctly even on lower-resolution documents.

    • Problematic files are visible – I can preview the failing files in the prompt testing window, and they appear fine.

    • Key observation: When using the pre-built AI model "Extract all the text in photos and PDF documents (OCR)," the files that fail in my AI prompt work perfectly. This model successfully extracts all text from the document.

If you retry the same files, do they always fail or if you retry building with them does it work?

I'd have to see the PDF files that fail( at least 2 would be great ) to see what the pattern is of data and if its some data that is not usable and or due to images etc.

Is there anything at all that is common across the ones? let's think of it as poor victims :-( and try to get more related details between the failures as I cannot see anything there.

Its also super hard to read the prompt, can you please share it in bigger letters than the picture and also share 2 images that do not work and at least 1 or 2 that do
