From Solo Organizer to Regional Connector: The Power of Community

When you meet Graciela Martinez, you quickly sense her passion for building connections. Graciela’s journey began in 2022, when she founded the El Salvador Power Platform group with a simple goal: to create a welcoming space for Power Platform enthusiasts across Latin America. “I started the community and I’m also the organizer; there’s really no one else in the actual organizing task, so it’s pretty much just me,” Graciela shares, reflecting on her solo start.

What began as a small monthly online meetup soon blossomed into a vibrant, international community. “We get people from different countries, and every time we have new faces,” she explains.

“I loved sharing and talking to people who were keen to share what they wanted. It was really cool to find others working with the Power Platform,” she says. Her humor and authenticity fueled the group’s growth: “I started posting jokes about being a Power Platform developer, and that really helped. The community went from a couple hundred followers to recently reaching 3,000.”

Graciela’s journey is a testament to the power of showing up, sharing what you know, and welcoming others to do the same. “I don’t think I’ve ever reached out to a speaker who said ‘no’ to presenting. Everyone is eager to share. That’s really, really cool,” she reflects.

Confidence, Collaboration, and the Joy of Not Knowing

Community work, Graciela says, is about more than organizing events: it’s about personal transformation. “I’m a pretty introverted person. I don’t even know how I ended up leading a community group, but it’s helped me become more confident and able to communicate,” she admits. Preparing content, hosting events, and interacting with members have all built her self-assurance: “When people complimented my sessions, saying, ‘I really like how you explain this topic,’ it gave me the confidence to realize I do know what I’m talking about, at least in some areas.”

Perhaps most inspiring is Graciela’s embrace of vulnerability. “I’m more confident saying ‘I don’t know.’ When I started, I was scared someone would ask me something I didn’t know. But now, I’m really happy to say it. It’s made me more confident in what I do know, and I can offer solutions to challenges I’ve faced before.” This openness has fostered a culture where learning and sharing go hand in hand, and every member is encouraged to contribute, regardless of expertise.

Building Bridges: Regional Collaboration in Action

One of the most exciting developments in Graciela’s journey is the rise of regional collaboration. “Instead of just focusing on one country or city, we’re coming together as a region,” she says, describing the regional summits that unite communities across Central America. “It was someone in Nicaragua who came up with the idea, but we all agreed. ‘Let’s get together every year to talk about digital transformation and move the region forward.’”

These summits have grown from single-day workshops to multi-day events, celebrating shared purpose and collective growth. “People from all over Latin America join these summits. I love how we’re collaborating and coming together stronger as a region. It’s getting bigger each year, and honestly, it’s a little scary to think about bringing it to El Salvador because I don’t have that many contacts or sponsors, but we’ll see!”

Graciela’s story reminds us that community is built not just on shared interests, but on generosity, courage, and the willingness to grow together. Every contribution, whether it’s a funny meme, a technical deep dive, or simply saying “I don’t know,” strengthens the bonds that make our communities thrive. Let’s celebrate the leaders, learners, and connectors who make our spaces welcoming, inspiring, and transformative!
