The Best Methods for Combining Power BI and Power Apps to Report Data in Real Time

Posted on by 2
Hello Everyone,

Right now, I'm working on a project that requires me to instantly integrate Power BI reports for real-time data reporting into a Power Apps application from the community. Users should be able to access real-time data insights within the app, update data through Power Apps in real-time, and then dynamically visualise the changes in the embedded Power BI report.

Although I've worked with Power BI and Power Apps alone before, I've never attempted to combine them into a single, well-functioning system before. I'm having some difficulties, and I would truly appreciate some guidance on the following:

Real-time Data Flow: What are the best practices for providing real-time data changes between Power Apps and Power BI? I've read that syncing data between systems can be accomplished with Power Automate, but is there a quicker way to do this?

Is there a recommended way to integrate Power BI reports into Power Apps in a way that guarantees optimal efficiency and real-time data exchange? When doing this, are there any particular restrictions or things to keep in mind?

Managing Huge Databases: Because of the size of my data set, I'm concerned about performance problems. Exist any techniques to boost efficiency when utilising big datasets in this integration?

Last but not least, what license ramifications exist for users interacting with Power BI reports via Power Apps? Do they require a license for Power BI Pro, or does Power Apps take care of that with google cloud platform?

I'd love to hear about any experiences, suggestions, or resources you might have to aid me streamline this integration. Thank you in advance for your help and support.

General Tips for Streamlining the Integration:

    • Use Dataverse or SQL: If possible, centralize your data in Dataverse or an Azure SQL Database for seamless connectivity and real-time reporting.
    • Test for Performance: Regularly test both Power BI reports and Power Apps for performance bottlenecks, especially when working with large datasets.
    • Use Conditional Refresh: If your app doesn’t always need real-time data, consider using scheduled refreshes to reduce the load on your system while providing relatively recent data.
Hope this helps !! If you have any more questions or need assistance in the future, feel free to reach out. We at Cannyfore (www.cannyfore.com) will be happy to help whenever you need it.
