Hi,

I`m currently running a POC using a chatbot for ms teams powered by copilot studio. This chatbot has acces to a determined knowledge source and must answer technical questions based on those documents.

I am using gpt 5 with reasoning as model, I have disabled web search and general knowledge.

I also disabled all the topics, as it was just useless for me, as I dont intend on putting a human on the loop at least for now. However, even after disabling the topics, I keep getting the message:

"Sorry, I am not able to find a related topic. Can you rephrase and try again?"

Fact is that I dont want it to use any topic at all, and thats why I disabled all of them. I just want it to answers the users questions based on the provided knowledge and instructions.

I noticed that this only happens when a user sends the same questions more than 2 times, and that this would be a fallback trigger. But even after disabling it and publising a new version, this topic keeps being triggered.

This is causing me a huge problem during the POC, as the users get the impression that the bot is failing in responding correctly the questions and is not dependable enough to be brought into live environment.

So without a Topic, as this is a Conversational Agent, your instructions are going to be need to be amazing because a conversation agent expects it to have a topic or use the system ones.

There isn't enough information in your "issue" to help fix it because I need to see your instructions, description and anything else you have, so we can help.

    Cheers

Hello @Michael E. Gernaey! Thank you for your answer (=.

So, I think I might be trying to do something using the wrong path maybe, but I see no alternative.

My idea is to have an agent that has access to my external knowledge via RAG. All I want is a chat that answers based exclusively on my knowledge, and it actually does that!

However, it keeps falling into this topic thing only if I ask the same question more than 2 times.

As I said, the idea is that this agent to be used as a co-inteligence partner for our technical department, reading our technical documents and helping anwers technical questions. I do not want it to be able to redirect to other department or anything like that.

Despite the message, the agent is capable of answering properly - as it in fact does, twice! But after the second time, the messa ocurrs even though the fallback topic is disabled.

If there is any more information I can provide please let me know. This is driving me crazy :D

Just found this thread while investigating a similar issue in another Forum question. By any chance, is SharePoint your knowledge source? If yes, this is a known issue for a few months now, and Microsoft still don't have a solution, or a workaround:

Thank you @rzaneti ! This information is very helpful.

I am using my copilot using a sharepoint data source. However, most of the time I can get answers, except when I get this message about not finding topics.

I am also experiencing this same issue in a differect copilot of mine, that also uses sharepoint.

I still got no return nor solution... This is very frustrating.
