The AEC industry often involves complex projects requiring coordination among various stakeholders, including architects, engineers, contractors, and clients. Traditional methods of collaboration can lead to inefficiencies and miscommunication.

Potential Discussion Points

  • Integration with BIM Tools: How can Power Platform integrate with Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools like Autodesk Revit to automate data flows and reduce manual data entry?
  • Automated Reporting: What are effective ways to use Power Automate for generating real-time project status reports and sharing them with stakeholders via platforms like Microsoft Teams or Outlook?
  • Role-Based Access: How can Power Platform be utilized to manage permissions and access across different project teams, ensuring that the right information reaches the right people
  • AI-Powered Assistance: In what ways can Microsoft Copilot assist AEC professionals in drafting proposals, analyzing project risks, or optimizing schedules?
  • Mobile Accessibility: How can Power Apps be used to create mobile solutions that allow field workers to access project data, submit reports, or update tasks in real-time?
This question aims to explore practical applications and success stories where Microsoft Power Platform has been implemented to improve collaboration and efficiency in AEC projects. Sharing experiences and insights can help others in the industry adopt similar solutions.

to answer your questions quite shortly:
    • Integration with BIM Tools: Does these softwares provide any kind of API, webhook etc.? If so you can build your own custom connector to run CRUD-Operations to your needs with PowerAutomate or PowerApps
    • Automated Reporting: You can use PowerAutomate to send words, filled automatically. But I would suggest using PowerBi for that. Is there any reason to use an Automation and not just an external facing dashboard?
    • Role-Based Access: Dataverse has a strong RBAC Model, you can setup individual permission, Businessunits Hierachies and Teasm with specific priveliges. Nearly everything is possible here.
    • AI-Powered Assistance: Probably using Copilot as an Agent approach in Teams with a combination of Prompts and PowerAutomate for really getting the best out of it
    • Mobile Accessibility: There is a OOB Field service app from Microsoft. Otherwise PowerApps are designed to be offline available with specific formulas. In most cases that's enough.

    Hope that helps a bit.

How can AEC firms use Microsoft Power Platform to improve project workflows?

AEC firms can get a lot of value from the Microsoft Power Platform by connecting data, automating tasks, and simplifying collaboration.

    • Power Automate can link BIM tools like Revit or BIM 360 with Teams or SharePoint — automating report generation, approval workflows, and data syncing.

    • Power BI helps visualize project progress, cost tracking, and model data in real-time dashboards.

    • Power Apps lets teams create custom mobile apps for site inspections, issue tracking, or field updates — all syncing back to a central database.

    • Power Automate + Copilot can also handle repetitive admin work, draft project reports, or suggest schedule optimizations using AI

In short, the Power Platform bridges the gap between design, data, and delivery — keeping everyone aligned and reducing manual effort across AEC project workflows.
