Hello everyone,
We are in the process of developing a portal using Power Pages that requires a secure file storage solution accessible by external users.
We are currently weighing our options between using SharePoint Online and SharePoint Embedded for this purpose.
Our main goal is to choose the best option in terms of security, user experience, and scalability.
Based on your experience, what would you recommend? What are the most significant differences, advantages, and disadvantages of each in this specific scenario?
Thank you for your valuable input.
Hi,
In most Power Pages scenarios SharePoint Online is the safer bet since it’s mature, tightly integrated with Microsoft 365, and comes with strong security and compliance features, though external sharing controls can sometimes feel restrictive; SharePoint Embedded, on the other hand, is newer and more developer-focused, giving you flexible APIs and a headless storage model that allows for a smoother custom experience for external users, but it requires more effort to build around and doesn’t yet have the same ecosystem, so if you want something quick and proven go with Online, but if your priority is a fully tailored, scalable external experience and you have dev capacity, Embedded could be worth considering.
