Based on the latest findings, here are some common causes and troubleshooting steps for errors when trying to activate auditing in the Power Platform Admin Center:

⚠️ Common Causes of Auditing Activation Errors

    1. Missing Licensing Requirements

    • Auditing via Microsoft Purview requires at least one user in the tenant to have a Microsoft 365 E5 license or equivalent  .
    • If no eligible license is present, activation may fail silently or with a generic error.

    2. API Permissions Misconfigured

    • If you're using custom apps or integrations, ensure that:
      • API permissions are set to Application type (not Delegated).
      • Permissions are granted admin consent  .

    3. Secret Configuration Issues

    • If secrets are stored in Azure Key Vault, ensure:
      • The app has Key Vault Secrets User and Contributor roles.
      • The secret value (not the secret ID) is correctly configured  .

    4. Environment-Specific Bugs

    • Some users have reported that auditing fails across DEV/TEST/PROD environments due to a tenant-level bug  .
    • In such cases, Microsoft Support may need to intervene.

     Recommended Steps to Fix

    1. Check Licensing

      • Go to Microsoft 365 Admin Center → Users → Licenses.
      • Ensure at least one user has Microsoft 365 E5 or Microsoft Purview Audit license.
    2. Try Enabling Auditing from Environment Settings

      • Go to Power Platform Admin Center → Environments → Select your environment.
      • Navigate to Settings → Audit and logs → Audit settings.
      • Enable Start Auditing and Audit user access.
    3. Use Microsoft Purview Compliance Portal

      • Visit Microsoft Purview → Audit → Start recording user and admin activity.
    4. Raise a Microsoft Support Ticket

      • If the error persists, go to Power Platform Admin Center → Help + Support and submit a ticket.
