Numeric Input - how to set background color?

I have a form with many inputs - text input, combo box (dropdown) and numeric inputs. I am using a global variable to define the background color for the text input and combo box so that when the form changes from view to new/edit mode the background color changes so it is visually apparent to the user what they are doing. The problem is that numeric inputs do not offer a "FILL" property like text input and combo box do. So several questions here:

1. Why don't numeric inputs offer the same FILL property that other modern inputs allow? Seems like a bad oversight here. We tried utilizing several other properties for numeric inputs but there doesn't appear to be anything to change the background color. Assuming most forms would have multiple inputs, why would they create inputs without the same properties (FILL) available? Seems extraordinarily short-sighted. Is there any other way to set the background color for a numeric input?

2. Since numeric inputs don't offer FILL property, we were forced to use classic text inputs, which has a "number" mode. But the fonts in a classic text input appear different than a modern text input even though the properties are identical (Segoe UI, 12). The same font + size should be the same - or at least very close. They are not. Why?? Is there some way to make the fonts look at least closer to each other?

(and, no, CoPilot has no solutions/answers for either of these questions)

thanks!

    hey

in general me and also many others wont suggest using modern controls in productive apps as of now. as you can see some of the modern ones have a few limitations, the only advantage (in my point of view) is that they look better than the classic ones.

stick to the classic controls and stay away from headache :)
