MCP Server Setup Causing SystemError or No Response in Copilot Studio

Hey everyone,

I'm running into some issues while trying to integrate an MCP server with Microsoft Copilot Studio.

I followed the official Microsoft documentation to set up the MCP server, and my goal is to expose tools that Copilot can call in order to run background queries and return responses in natural language. However, I’m consistently hitting a wall during testing.

Here’s what’s happening:

Sometimes, I get a generic error message like this:

Sorry, something went wrong.
Error code: SystemError
Conversation ID: a3259d90-303a-4cd4-ab62-38dd4607f97e
Time (UTC): 4/22/2025 9:43:46 AM

Other times, the Copilot just hangs and doesn’t load any response at all — even though the MCP server is reachable and responds correctly when tested directly (e.g., via Postman or browser).

The setup is meant to let Copilot understand what tools are available (via manifest) and then call those tools through the MCP server to get a natural language answer back. But right now, either an error pops up or nothing loads.

Has anyone else run into this? Are there any known fixes, or maybe updated instructions that go beyond the official guide?

Happy to share a screenshot and more setup details if needed. Appreciate any help!

Thanks!

    Hello!
Thanks for posting on the community forum! I took a look at the internal logs corresponding to your conversation id you pasted. It appears that you are trying to use your mcp server in a topic , which is not supported.
Instead please add the server as an "action" by going to the "actions" tab under your agent.
