External portal for D365

Hi,

I have a requirement to implement an external-facing portal with a simple form to get user input and write it to D365. Additionally, the portal needs to read data from a third-party tool through an API (provided by the third party) and display the data in the portal ( may be writing to D365 as well).

Currently, I am evaluating the options (Power Pages - no-code/low-code vs. custom-built website - fully developed), focusing on security, ease of implementation, extensibility, running cost ( license cost vs maintenance, etc) , etc.

I would like to get your experience ( recommendations) and understand the main areas we should consider to make a decision.

Thanks.

Thank you very much for your reply.
We need B2C / Azure external identity.
In reg to the API call- we don't need to show them data when they filling the form.

    Thanks.

Without completely understanding all the actions you need to do (which you did document some great stuff) and exactly who the external users are (are they guests in your Tenant, are they B2C/B2B Enabled accounts, or just guests/anonymous?

You said the portal needs to read from a 3rd Party and show in the portal. Is this information show at the time that the person is filling information in or how does this relate to their input?

    1. What security do you need
    2. What and how do the two requirements work together as it helps define
    3. Do you need to track "who" exactly responded? Or anonymous ok?

These are important, as if I skip your second question about API calling, I'd say use Microsoft Forms to collect the data and use Power Automate in the back end to store it in SharePoint or Dataverse.

If you need to read data in REAL_TIME to show the person on the "form" before they save, then this will require something more such as Power Pages.
Or, you build a Power App, make these people Guests in your tenant and give them a license (which they may need anyway with Power Pages) and publish that.

So for me I need more finite details to tell you which way I would recommend.
