i am taking a data analysis & visualization course (im a beginner but eager & excited about this tool) in coursera & am stuck on 1 of my modules. i need help accessing the pin icon. i dont see it at all. i also dont know how to get all the visuals on 1 report. can someone please assist me with this? how do i get my report to look this way & how might i find the pin visual? i dont see it when i hover over the visual.

The pin icon is only visible when you look at a report in a workspace, and only if you have permissions to edit dashboards.

To enumerate all visuals in a report you can use the Embedded Playground scripts, or use the PBIR export format, or the "Selection" feature, or any of the other methods.

Hi,

If you're following the Coursera Power BI course, the Pin option can be confusing because it is not available in every Power BI view.

The Pin visual feature is mainly used when working with a report in the Power BI Service (Power BI on the web). If you're using Power BI Desktop, you may not see the pin icon when hovering over a visual.

To get multiple visuals onto one report page:

Open your report in Power BI Desktop (or Power BI Service).

Create each visual you need, such as an area chart, bar chart, pie/donut chart, etc.

Place the visuals on the same report page and resize/reposition them as shown in the course.

If the course specifically asks you to pin a visual to a dashboard, publish the report to the Power BI Service first.

In Power BI Service, open the report, hover over the visual, select the More options (...) menu, and look for Pin to a dashboard.

Also, make sure you're following the same Power BI environment/version as the course. Microsoft has changed the Power BI interface over time, so the exact location or availability of the Pin option may differ.

If you share a screenshot of the Power BI screen you're currently using, it would be easier to point out exactly where the option should be.

The Pin Icon Only Exists in the Web Service: The pushpin icon is used to pin visuals to a Dashboard and is only available in the Power BI Service (app.powerbi.com), not in Power BI Desktop.

Why You Can’t See the Pin:

You are working inside Power BI Desktop instead of the web browser.

You are viewing a shared report online without edit permissions.

Visual headers were turned off in the formatting settings.

How to Get All Visuals on One Page (Power BI Desktop):

You do not need to pin anything.

Click an empty space on your report canvas.

Select a chart type from the Visualizations pane and add your data fields.

Resize and drag each visual into position side-by-side on the same canvas.

How to Use the Pin Icon (Power BI Web Service):

Click Publish on the Home ribbon in Power BI Desktop.

Open the report in your web browser at app.powerbi.com.

Hover over the top-right corner of any visual and click the Pushpin (Pin visual) icon.

Select an existing dashboard or create a new one to assemble your pinned tiles.
