I understand that custom version-checking solutions can be implemented, but is there currently any native Power Apps feature that automatically forces all users onto the latest published version or prevents access to outdated versions without requiring custom development?

    Hi,
Currently, no, there isn't a native Power Apps feature that forces all users onto the latest published version or blocks access to older versions of a canvas app.
A few points to be aware of:

    • Publishing an app makes the latest version available to users, but users with an active session may continue using the version they already have open until they refresh or reopen the app.
    • There is no built-in setting to automatically invalidate existing sessions or force an immediate upgrade.
    • Power Apps maintains previous versions primarily for maker rollback purposes—they aren't intended for end users to select, but active sessions can continue running an older published version until restarted.
If your organization needs to ensure users are always on the latest version, the common approach is to implement a version check. For example, store the current app version in a SharePoint list, Dataverse table, or Environment Variable, compare it to the app version on startup, and prompt users to refresh or close the app if they're running an older version.
For mission-critical applications, it's also a good practice to:
    • Notify users before publishing major updates.
    • Publish during maintenance windows where possible.
    • Ask users to close and reopen the app after deployment.

So, at this time, a custom version-check mechanism is still the recommended approach if you need to enforce the latest version across all users.

There is currently no native Power Apps capability to:
    • Force all active users onto the latest published version immediately.
    • Block users from accessing an older cached version without custom logic.
If this capability is important for your organization, consider submitting it through the Microsoft Power Ideas portal or voting for an existing feature request, as it has been a common request from the Power Apps community.

I have this function on numerous prod apps that enforces the requirement - this blog of mine sets out the process.

Happy to explain further if required.
