Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a recurring performance issue with a Dataflow refresh in Power Apps (using Dataverse) and would like to ask for some advice on how to diagnose the root cause. The performance is intermittently very slow.

Workflow / Environment:

  • Source: Dataverse and Excel (via an On-premises Gateway)

  • Destination: Dataverse

  • Operation: Reading data to Upsert and Delete rows in another Dataverse table.

Problem Details:
The issue became apparent between Aug 27th - 29th. The refresh history shows a significant and unpredictable fluctuation in duration:

  • Normal: ~1-2 minutes

  • Problematic: Anywhere from 15 minutes to nearly 2 hours.

My Questions for the Community:
I would like to ask for advice from experienced users on what tools, techniques, or methods can be used to fix this problem

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions!

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,

    Hi @lynfin

Thank you so much for sharing your post and confirming the issue. I was worried that I was the only one experiencing this problem, so your post was a great relief.

I wanted to give you an update on my current situation. Last week, I fixed all of my problematic dataflows using the method we both discovered (recreating them from scratch), and everything was working well until today (Sept 13th).

Unfortunately, I'm starting to see bad signs again. The same slowdown issue has started to reappear, this time affecting the newly created dataflows. Furthermore, some dataflows that had no issues during the initial incident are now starting to show the same slowdown problem today.

Regarding a support ticket, I also tried to open one during that time, but I found it quite difficult to get in contact with a human support agent. I kept getting blocked by the AI Agent Support, and until now, I still don't know how to report this issue effectively.

I'm posting this comment to give you a heads-up and to let you know to be vigilant, as it seems there's a chance this issue can happen again.

    Best regards,
    Games

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,
Thanks for posting this.  We recently experienced a similar 'unexplained' slowdown of dataflows.  Refresh times from three dataflows below.

In our case there was a blip on 9/5 across all three dataflows, and then performance got progressively worse 9/7 thru 9/9.  The issue seems to have resolved itself in the morning of 9/10.

Based on comments here, our fix on 9/9 was to create new dataflows (from scratch, not a copy).  The new dataflows ran and completed without delay.

We did open a ticket with Microsoft.  Provided details, will see if they find anything.

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,
    Hi @Siripong,
Just throwing random thoughts here, you mentioned "Source: Dataverse and Excel (via an On-premises Gateway)".

Can you please update the version of Gateway to latest version , if not, that might help.
I am trying to replicate your issue, but all my dataflows are running as expected ( i see some variance in time like (+20% execution roughly 10 ~ 20 mins but not hours for few runs))

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,
    Hi @Siripong,
I am not sure, what the error could be, It would be better for raising a Microsoft Support ticket for this problem.
and we will see if any other community members can help

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,

    Hi everyone,

I'd like to provide a critical update on my situation. Thank you all for your continued input.

The problem has unfortunately escalated. The refresh time for the problematic dataflows has now peaked at nearly 24 hours, resulting in a timeout error.

I have found a temporary workaround:
Instead of copying an existing dataflow, I tried creating a brand new dataflow from scratch manually, with the exact same steps. This seems to solve the immediate problem for that specific dataflow. Copying the dataflow does not work; the issue persists in the copied version.

However, this is not a permanent solution. Even though this workaround can fix a flow, there is still a chance that the newly created dataflow will also get stuck.

After this latest discovery, it appears that once a dataflow gets stuck, it will now remain stuck and run for the full 24-hour timeout period. This is now happening to all of my problematic flows.

I hope this information is helpful to others who might be experiencing the same thing.

    Best regards,
    Games

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,
    HI @Power Apps 1919

Thank you for the guidance. That's a great suggestion.

Here is the screenshot of the detailed run history after clicking on the timestamp. This is from one of the slowest runs, which took nearly 5 hours to complete.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

    Thanks,

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,
Hi @RH-25100855-0 Thank for reading and paying attention to my problem.

I also think it might be on the Microsoft Backend side.

Last month, I also faced another type of problem with my Flow. It was a date format transformation for writing to a Dataverse table, which had been working normally for months before that. In that case, I was able to solve the problem by recreating that Dataflow with the exact same steps.

And today, my problem still exists and it seems to have peaked even more than before, going from 1-2 hours to almost 5 hours.

And today I have a new observation. I had created a Dataflow with the same query steps and the same type of steps, and I copied it into 4 Dataflows to support calls from multiple users. I tried running them at the same time and saw that 1 of the 4 Dataflows had a refresh time issue, taking up to 2 hours, while the rest worked normally, taking only less than 1 minute. This is despite the fact that the source data and the steps are identical.

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,
can you add any screenshots of any existing run , clicking on timestamp for any already executed run.

what i want to see is, it highlights what portion took what amount of time .
based on that we can identify the root cause

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,
    Hi,

I'm also experiencing this issue with my dataflow insert row. I don't have a lot of dataflow to run but I do this consistently for one of it once every first day of the month.
It used to be done within a minute or two. but yesterday i have waited more than half an hour and still running. I canceled it and restarted again. Now this morning it is completed but inserting duplicates for each row.

Do you think this a microsoft backend issue?

Slow Performance with Power Apps Dataflow Refresh Body: Hi everyone,

    Hi @TD,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have waited as you suggested, but unfortunately, the issue is still occurring today.

I have also tried several other troubleshooting steps, including reconfiguring the data load settings and even creating a completely new dataflow with the exact same logic, but I still cannot solve this problem.

Critically, as of today, the issue is no longer isolated to a single dataflow; it is now affecting nearly all of my dataflows.

Given this new information, do you have any additional recommendations for how I can investigate this problem further?

    Thanks,
    Games
